SOMIE INSTANT TRANSLATION EARBUDS (IN PROGRESS)
Language is a core part of who we are as humans, yet it could also be a huge barrier that prevents us from fully interacting with each other - specifically with our family members, significant others, and significant other's family members. Somie bridges that gap, bringing families together and allowing them to communicate freely.
For my packaging class at WWU during 2018 Spring Quarter, I was tasked to create a product brand for a specific niche with a need that isn't currently being met. I was fascinated by emerging instant translation technology, such as the Pilot Translating Earpiece, and realized that none of these products were branded for families. Seeing as how there are so many families who have come from other countries and are now raising their children in America, the language barrier becomes more and more apparent. This is also visible within interracial relationships and marriages, where there are often language barriers that can make the relationship more difficult. I wanted my brand to remedy that.
I wanted the name to have a deeper meaning behind it and to sound inviting. After combining different words and searching up words in different languages (words with the meaning sound, language, talking, friend, family, love, etc), I decided on combining the Portuguese word "Som" (meaning sound) with the French word "Amie" (meaning friend). Although this product is branded for families, it allows people to connect and share more stories with each other, making them better companions.
INITIAL LOGO CONCEPTS
These are some of my logo sketches and initial digital logo designs. I also played around with colors that are friendly and inviting, while also using neutral colors like gray and blue to ground it and give it the "tech" vibe.
